Storm the Castle was a two-hour primetime special, based on the Japanese format Takeshi's Castle, featuring five family members competing in athletic stunts for a shot of $15,000.

The competition began with thirty families searching for tennis balls in a giant mud pit. The first ten teams to find fourteen balls entered the game competition. The teams competed in nine challenges, each worth a different number of points and following the events the top-two teams went on to "Storm the Castle". Among the challenges were "Devil's Domain", a honeycomb maze with thirty doors that a player tried to maneuver through while avoiding some of the monsters from Universal Studios. One door led to a safe exit, while the others opened into a pool of water. Other events included "Human Bowling", where a player from each family picked a card to determine his or her position on a bowling lane. Any player left standing after a giant bowling ball was rolled at him or her earned points. Another event was "Dunk Your Parents", where three levers pushed earned points for the team and the fourth lever dropped their parents into the water. To win the jackpot, the players from the tow top-scoring teams were each put into motorized bumper boats and given plastic swords with the goal of trying to be the first team to reach and pop twelve to win the game and $15,000.
