Ginger got her first name via her Dutch father, who named her after the character Ginger Grant from Gilligan's Island. He learned English from that show.
Recently, Ginger went public with the fact that as a child and up to her college years, she suffered from an eating disorder. Initially, she did that to cope with her parents getting a divorce. As she grew, she soon realized that it was a big mistake. It wasn't until college that she learned to eat again.
Ginger became interested in weather due to seeing a waterspout while vacationing on Lake Michigan. In 1999, Zee graduated from Rockford High School in Rockford, Michigan. After that, Zee went on to Valparaiso University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology. Her goal at graduation was to be a meteorologist on The Today Show by age 30. After graduation and a series of stints in local television, she fulfilled her goal by working as a guest weekend meteorologist on The Today Show. ABC saw her on The Today Show and quickly hired her to become the new weekend meteorologist on Good Morning America in 2011. Two years after receiving that job, Ginger graduated to become the new chief weekday meteorologist.
Ginger to currently married to WNBC personality Ben Aaron Colonomos. They got their first child near the end of 2015.
